Air Sampling for Asbestos and Fibers
- Asbestos and Other Fibers by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) - NIOSH Method 7400
NIOSH method is used for the analysis of asbestos in air by PCM. Results are reported as fibers per cubic centimeter and depend on the volume of air sampled. PCM analysis is not asbestos fiber specific. It will count all fibers meeting the criteria for fiber determination. - Interim Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Analytical Methods (Appendix A to Subpart E of Part 763)
This method is used for the analysis of asbestos in air by TEM. Results are reported as structures per square millimeter and are specific for the determination of asbestos fibers present in the sample. This procedure is typically required for final re-occupancy criteria. Mandatory, nonmandatory and mandatory sections to determine completion of response actions.

Why Asbestos Surveys Are Essential for Property Safety
Asbestos was once considered a valuable building material, but today it is recognized as a serious health hazard. When disturbed, asbestos fibers can become airborne and are easily inhaled, posing long-term risks such as respiratory problems, lung scarring, and even cancer. Because of these dangers, surveys are essential for identifying where asbestos may exist in a property. Professional inspections not only protect the people who live and work in these spaces but also ensure compliance with local and state regulations.
By working with a licensed asbestos inspection company in Nassau County, NY, property owners gain peace of mind knowing that potential hazards will be uncovered before they create serious health concerns. A proper survey establishes a clear plan of action, whether that means leaving the material undisturbed, monitoring its condition, or safely removing it through remediation.
